Machine Translation

Machine Translation is a tool. Depending on the task, it may be absolutely essential, or practically useless. I once translated a 120,000-word book into Finnish. Without MT and post editing, the customer would not have been able to afford it. On the other hand, patent translations must be done word-for-word, where I have no use for MT.

I may be able to handle unusually large word counts at a substantially reduced rate, but I need to use my own MT process. I will not accept post editing tasks of MT done by someone else.

MT is improving at a dizzying pace, but will not remove the need for good post editing. Not in our lifetime, maybe never.
